A Heap of Japanese Animation News Dropped During the Festive Season
The Yuletide season offer a multitude of activities much better than scanning the updates: discovering surprises, getting stuffed on delicious food, and harnessing deep breathing to not yelling at family members. I hope you were able to do all these things and more. Nevertheless, the world of entertainment never sleeps, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. Numerous noteworthy developments came out over the break, and just in case you didn't see any, here is a compilation of the biggest bits.
The One-Punch Man Series Season 3 Is Moving Forward (By 2027)
Truly the biggest revelation, the notorious troubled production that was the third season of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to halt the series' continuation. The show will be back with a subsequent part in 2027—such a distant date they easily could have labeled it season 4. Even more shocking, the studio J.C. Staff will remain leading the project. At least this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the start, which might be a good sign. Yet, the promotional image for the continuation is the same image the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou oriented differently. This suggests that, nowadays, they must be teasing the fans.
The Ruri Dragon Series Is Poised to Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime Produced By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has established a reputation for being an prestigious animation studio, distinguishing itself not just for the high caliber of its output but for the good working conditions of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had not adapted an anime adapted from a manga published in Shonen Jump, possibly the most famous magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a excellent choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo became widespread acclaim when it debuted in 2022 after just a few chapters, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the mangaka's health issues. When it resumed publication with a reduced workload, the series demonstrated it still retained the fans' support and enthusiasm, and now everyone is ecstatic about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.
Kingdom Season 6 Will Get a Sequel Now in the Works
Kingdom is the best-selling, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've never heard of it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English localization, but the anime has been going on for years, and its sixth season was a further excellent entry. It turns out that was just the first half, because a "sequel" has been announced as currently being made, and it will probably premiere in 2026.
Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia To Anime
One more studio famous for the excellent quality of its productions, Science Saru has given us hit shows of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be taking on the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the actual historical person of Fatima, an influential woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and captivating visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Set to premiere in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my list of anticipated shows.
Tougen Anki Is Set to Continue With a Season Two
Right after the airing of episode 24, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be receiving a follow-up. Based on the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will delve into the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a firm premiere date has not been disclosed yet.
