Followers Call for Custody of Man Who Touched Ariana Grande
Passionate fans of the actress are urging that a man who breached a barricade and seized the performer during Thursday's Wicked: For Good launch be detained or expelled from Singapore.
A circulating footage shows the Australian man bypassing photographers and lunging at Grande while the actors walked down a yellow carpet flanked by supporters.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo promptly guided the surprised actress away from Mr Wen, who was observed being led away of the premiere by security officers.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "free after being taken in", though court documents revealed that he was scheduled to be present on the next day. It is uncertain if he was faced legal action.
Pattern of Disruptions
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Notorious Troublemaker", has crashed a performance. His Instagram profile features clips of him disrupting other celebrity events, including rushing the platform at Katy Perry's Sydney concert in recently and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers concert in the area last December.
"Measures must be taken taken against him as this is obviously a legal violation," commented an Instagram follower, in a reply to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his actions.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" one Instagram user questioned.
Followers Voice Worry Over Ariana's Safety
Many fans accused Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had spoken of suffering from PTSD after a devastating incident at the finale of her spring 2017 show in Manchester, killing 22 people and harming hundreds.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" commented a further comment on Instagram.
Some fans also criticised guards at the premiere for not being sufficiently alert; while others requested online networks to block Mr Wen's videos.
Aftermath and Event Details
In footage circulating online, Grande appeared shocked when she was grabbed by the man. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen comforting her while Mr Wen was led out by security.
Grande has remained silent on the situation, and the rest of the event carried on uninterrupted.
Many of fans had gathered in a crowd of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good international debut in a Singapore mall, including a number who had waited for as long as eight hours before it started.
The motion picture, to be released on the 21st of November, is the second of a two-part adaptation of the popular theatrical production Wicked, which revolves around the unlikely bond between two very different sorceresses.
The show itself is a adaptation of the 1900 book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the character Glinda Glinda, was adorned in a light pink sequin dress at the gathering while Erivo, who acts as the wicked witch, wore a elegant ensemble featuring roses.
They were accompanied by cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the most successful film of 2024 in the UK, and earned 10 Oscar nominations, earning a pair for best costume and artistic direction.
