President Trump Calls Relatives of Attacked Guard Soldiers to White House
President Trump announced on Sunday that he has asked the loved ones of a National Guard member fatally shot last week to come to the White House.
He noted that he contacted her parents and they were “heartbroken”.
Background on the Heartbreaking Incident
US army specialist Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was killed in a shooting on Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her comrade, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, continues receiving treatment in grave state.
Memorials across the state have taken place in their remembrance.
Presidential Call
The commander-in-chief stated he’s proposed a visit to the White House for the loved ones of both members of the state Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a hard experience, arrive at the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to her,” Trump addressed reporters. “And similarly with him, no matter the outcome.”
Public Reaction
Mourners assembled over the past few days at the high school in West Virginia to pay respects to Beckstrom.
Both she and Wolfe had been working with the military unit as part of Trump’s federal initiative to support public safety in Washington DC.
Paying Tribute to the Soldier
“Sarah was the individual that instructors wished for. She conducted herself with inner fortitude, a warm expression and a positive energy that lifted those around her,” the principal, the leader of Beckstrom’s former high school, told the press. “She was sweet, considerate and always willing to support those in need.”
Funeral details for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.
Judicial Actions and Policy Adjustments
Authorities have indicted a 29-year-old individual from Afghanistan with one count of murder and charges of violent assault while carrying a weapon.
The event caused the Trump administration to suspend asylum processing and cease issuing entry permits to holders of travel documents.
Status of Wolfe
Andrew Wolfe, a native of Martinsburg, enlisted in 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman high school, per the Associated Press.
He remains under medical supervision and is “fighting for his life”, West Virginia leader Morrisey mentioned on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
The state’s top lawyer Pam Bondi told Fox News Sunday that she planned to speak to the family.
Legacy of the Fallen Soldier
Beckstrom, from her hometown, completed her education from her high school in June 2023 and began her service not long after, working as a law enforcement officer with excellence, as stated by the military.
“She had a lot of goodness and she certainly had bravery,” he informed the audience at the vigil. “Though her time ended too soon, she has made an impact that’s going to be remembered always.”
